The European Symposium on Cultivated Biodiversity and Municipal Policy will take place in Granollers (Barcelona) in spring 2025, bringing together key European actors in agroecology and sustainable food systems.

The Granollers City Council, the Spanish Network of Municipalities for Agroecology (Red de Municipios por la Agroecología), and the Horizon EU project LiveSeeding are organizing the 1st European Symposium “Fostering Cultivated Biodiversity through Local Food Policies”.

The Symposium is a unique opportunity to drive European political and communicative action.

The aims of the event are:

  1. Promote the integration of cultivated biodiversity in municipal strategies to build sustainable, healthy, and biodiverse local food systems.
  2. Establish key alliances to support these efforts at a European level.

The Symposium will, upon invitation, bring together around 100 participants, including technical experts, policymakers from European municipalities, and key stakeholders active in organic production, cultivated biodiversity, sustainable food systems, and agroecology.

Over the two days, participants will engage in:

  • collective reflections on current challenges and opportunities;
  • knowledge-sharing sessions on successful experiences and municipal practices;
  • collaborative discussions to shape local food policies that emphasize cultivated biodiversity and the use of organic seeds in city-region agri-food systems.

The event will culminate in the adoption of the Declaration: “Fostering Cultivated Biodiversity in European Municipalities”.

How to participate: European municipalities engaged in or interested in cultivating biodiversity-related initiatives are invited to express their interest by completing this survey.

Although space is limited, every effort will be made to accommodate as many municipalities as possible. Additionally, financial support may be available to facilitate participation.
