A beneficiary of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme, the FoodLoops project establishes cooperation among schools, caterers (SMEs), farmers, and municipalities to ensure a greater circular economy. It aims to improve biowaste separation at source, prevent excessive food waste, and reuse it as organic compost.

Core activities

With project activities focused mainly in Poland, Lithuania, and Finland, FoodLoops aims to improve the organic waste cycle by pursuing two main roots:

  • First, the project empowers municipalities, school educators, and SMEs to improve biowaste separation at the source (e.g., in school kitchens and cafeterias).
  • Second, it guides these stakeholders in cooperating to develop solutions that convert unavoidable food waste into valuable products, opening new market opportunities.
