Dynamic learning agenda

Abstract Pattern

This tool supports stakeholders in structuring an adaptive learning process that evolves in response to emerging insights and challenges, through reflection, learning, and adjustment.

About the tool

What is a Dynamic Learning Agenda?

A Dynamic Learning Agenda is a flexible, ongoing process that allows stakeholders to continuously learn and adapt by reflecting on their actions and experiences. It is designed to evolve as new insights, challenges, and opportunities emerge, supporting continuous improvement in the implementation of food system transformations.

Who is this for?

This tool is intended for project leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders engaged in food system transformations who want to embed learning into their ongoing processes. It is particularly useful for those seeking to adapt and respond to changing circumstances while working towards long-term goals.

What is this tool for?

The tool provides a structured approach to developing and implementing a Dynamic Learning Agenda. It helps users define learning goals, track progress, and reflect on outcomes in a way that fosters ongoing adaptation and improvement. By using this tool, stakeholders can ensure that their strategies remain responsive and relevant as they work toward sustainable food system transformation.

How does it relate to other tools?

Dynamic learning agenda is a method within the Reflexive Monitoring in Action (RMA), a set of methods that allows for monitoring of initiatives that aim to have a systemic impact. These initiatives often entail complex processes running in parallel, on multiple levels, attempting radical change. Reflexive monitoring in action allows for reflection and learning to take place within and during a project. Other methods within RMA include System analysis, Actor analysis, and Causal analysis. Inputs from all three of these analyses can serve as input for the Dynamic Learning Agenda.

Monitoring methods outlined within RMA aren’t separate activities as such, but rather an integral part of the process. You can read more about this approach in the book Reflexive Monitoring in Action – A guide for monitoring system innovation projects. This tool was originally developed and published in the same book.
